Health Insurance in Mexico:

Don't Guess. Get a Reality Check.

Most people planning a move to Mexico — or already living here—make health insurance decisions without all of the facts. Here is what you actually need to know.

One of these assumptions describes where you are right now. Scroll down to find your situation — and make an informed decision before it is made for you.

Common Assumptions. Uncommon Consequences.

  • Reality: What you do not know is not in any quote — and crowdsourced advice is not expertise.

  • Reality: Different enough to leave you unprotected, excluded, or financially exposed in ways no brochure will ever warn you about.

  • Reality: What your doctor calls stable, a Mexican carrier calls a starting point — and the difference could change everything.

  • Reality: The window for obtaining the right coverage does not stay open indefinitely — and waiting longer narrows your options permanently.

  • The window for making the right decision does not stay open indefinitely — and by the time most people realize this, they are already on the ground.

  • Proximity is not expertise — and a local office will not answer the phone at 3:00 AM during a medical crisis.

Which One Describes Your Situation RIGHT NOW?

I am planning my move to Mexico and need clarity before I arrive.

Before you request a single quote, your insurability matrix determines which carriers will accept you and on what terms.

Orchestrating Your Move BEFORE the First Box is Packed.

You are planning your move and you have done your research — quotes, Facebook groups, YouTube videos. You feel prepared. You are not.

Not because you did anything wrong. But because the information available to you online was never designed to tell you the whole story. Quotes show you today's price — not tomorrow's reality. Facebook groups reflect someone else's experience — not yours. And no brochure will ever tell you whether you are actually insurable before you arrive — or what your plan will cost as you age, or what happens when you actually need to use it.

This session is designed for individuals and couples 6 to 24 months from their move date who need a clear, honest picture of their health insurance reality in Mexico — before they commit.

What we cover:

  • Insurability — A review of your health profile against actual Mexican carrier underwriting requirements. Not an agent's opinion. The real picture.

  • Rate Projections — Moving past today's price to the real cost of aging in Mexico's private health insurance market.

  • Healthcare Mechanics — The bilingual realities of how the Mexican private system actually works — billing integrity, pre-authorization, and the structural facts that never appear in brochures, YouTube comments, or Facebook groups.

You leave with a clear roadmap — and no more guesswork.

I have health conditions or take medications and need to know where I stand before I apply.

Your insurability matrix is most complex when medications and diagnoses are involved — this is what most agents overlook to close a sale.

Know Before You Apply. No Surprises. No Assumptions.

You take regular medications, have a health history, or have had surgery. You are done making assumptions. In the US and Canada your doctor calls you stable. In Mexico's private insurance market the conversation is just beginning — and what carriers will see when they review your history, what limitations or exclusions may apply, and what your real options are may surprise you.

Here is what most agents will never tell you — and what some will intentionally ignore to close a sale: every applicant must declare their complete medical history. Every diagnosis. Every medication. Every surgery. What is not declared is not protected. And in Mexico's private market, an undisclosed medical history is a time bomb.

This session covers three critical areas:

  • Definitive Insurability — Identifying which carriers will view your profile as a barrier to entry versus a manageable risk.

  • Underwriting Realities — Surfacing the permanent exclusions, waiting periods, and coverage limitations hidden behind the brochure.

  • Pre-emptive Strategy — Determining whether your transition is viable before you commit capital, visa fees, or housing deposits.

The Agent Trap — What You Need to Know

An agent focused on closing a sale is not focused on protecting you. How your health history is recorded is of extreme importance — it lays the foundation for your future protection and determines the insurance company's legal obligation to pay your claims.

Under Mexican law, an insurance contract is only valid if built on "Good Faith." Per Article 8 of the MEXICAN INSURANCE CONTRACT ACT, the insured is legally required to disclose all relevant medical and risk-related facts in writing. This transparency is the mandatory foundation for the carrier to assess risk.

W A R N I N G: Under Article 47 of the same Act, any omission or inaccurate statement allows the carrier to rescind the contract "de pleno derecho" (by operation of law).

This means they can void your policy and deny claims—even if the undisclosed condition had nothing to do with the illness you are claiming for.

I have quotes, I have brochures, and I still cannot tell which plan is right — or what questions I should even be asking.

Your insurability matrix — not the brochure — determines which plan actually works for your situation.

Strip Away the Marketing. Find the Plan That Actually Works.

You are drowning in identical-looking PDFs and automated quotes — and every agent you speak to has a plan to sell and a different perspective on how to proceed. Whether you are planning your move or already living in Mexico, more options translates to confusion. You need an expert with no agenda to identify which plan actually survives a real medical crisis — not the one with the prettiest PDF.

This session pulls back the curtain on the industry. As a bilingual, bicultural advisor with 13 years inside Mexico's private health insurance market, I provide the data that brochures are designed to hide.

We evaluate your options through the lens of:

  • Institutional Reliability — The real-world behavior of carriers when faced with high-value inpatient claims.

  • Rate Sustainability — Analyzing rate trends to ensure your plan remains affordable as you age — not just today.

  • Underwriting Patterns — Identifying the hidden variables in policy language that determine whether a claim is paid or a technical denial is issued.

No sales pressure. No preferred carriers. Just an independent analysis of what actually makes sense for your situation.

I am already living in Mexico and ready to get my coverage sorted — permanently.

Your insurability matrix is the starting point for everything we cover in this session.

Mexico is Home. It Is Time to Get This Right.

You have moved past the adventure phase. Mexico is now home — and you are done with the Arrogant Luck of being uninsured, underinsured, or holding a policy with no long-term sustainability. The temporary thinking is over and the time to get this right is now. This is the most comprehensive session I offer — designed for the resident who is ready to stop putting this off permanently.

We cover all four dimensions of your health insurance reality:

  • Insurability — A deep dive into your medical history to identify the underwriting reality of your current or future coverage.

  • Institutional Eligibility — A definitive map of which carriers and plans are actually accessible to your specific age, health profile, and location.

  • Sustainability & Rate Trends — An analysis of rate history and age-bracket inflation to ensure your plan remains sustainable as you age — not just affordable today.

  • Operational Mechanics — Moving beyond the PDF to understand the bilingual advocacy and claims-payment integrity required for high-value inpatient events.

You leave with a complete picture and a clear path to long-term security — not another brochure for the pile.

Medicare in Mexico:

One Wrong Assumption. Permanent Consequences.

The rules are changing. The stakes are permanent. And most Americans in Mexico have no clue.

If you are approaching age 65, currently enrolled in Medicare, or questioning how your coverage functions south of the border — this requires a specialized conversation. Most Americans in Mexico operate under the Medicare Mirage — the assumption that their domestic plan is a viable fallback for a Mexican medical crisis.

This is where Facebook groups, YouTube videos, and domestic agents can lead you into a trap.

A word of caution: In the age of AI-generated advice and rapidly shifting federal policy, Medicare's rules and operations are changing faster than most people realize — and faster than most advisors can track. What was true last year may not be true today. What your neighbor told you last month may already be outdated.

The rules of engagement for Medicare change the moment you cross the border. You cannot afford to navigate this with second-hand information — from any source.

Medicare agents sell plans. We sell protection. Don't be caught unprotected.

Bilingual. Bicultural. 20 Years Inside Mexico's Private Health Insurance Market.

I do not sell policies. I do not start with quotes. I start with questions — because before you can make the right health insurance decision in Mexico, you need the right information first.

For 13 years I have helped Americans, Canadians, Mexican nationals, and expats navigate the real-world mechanics of Mexican underwriting — the structural realities, the carrier behaviors, and the claims-payment integrity that never appear in a brochure. I studied at the Universidad de Guadalajara and the Tecnológico de Monterrey and I understand this market from the inside.

I have seen what happens when people arrive in Mexico without the right coverage — uninsurable, underinsured, or holding a policy that will not survive a real medical crisis. I built Mexico Insurance Advisors so that does not happen to you.

At Mexico Insurance Advisors, we do not sell plans with preferred carriers or hidden agendas. A Strategy Consultation is not a sales meeting. It is the clearest picture of your health insurance reality in Mexico — before you make a decision you cannot undo.
